Obituary for William Keith Scott

William Keith Scott
William Keith Scott was born in Long Beach, California on March 18, 1950 to Carl and June Scott.
Keith spent his school years in Long Beach and enjoyed catching lizards, fishing the Baja, and roaming the undeveloped land of Desert Hot Springs, California with his grandparents, Albert and Lula Vig. At every opportunity, he would visit his paternal grandparents homestead north of Roy, New Mexico. The time on the homestead made him appreciate the wide-open spaces and developed his passion for ranching.
In 1970, he returned to New Mexico and attended New Mexico Highlands University. On October 19, 1973, he married Cheryl Wood and they remained residents of Roy. Over the years he drove for Cardox and for the SEC Corporation. He later worked as a dispatcher for the SEC company. He purchased two semi-trucks of his own and ran the business for 4 years before buying the local grocery store and establishing Scott’s Stop n’ Shop in 1987. In 1989, he then had the opportunity to purchase a ranch north of Roy, helping to build his dream of becoming a rancher. After selling his grocery store in 1994, he acquired additional ranching land and became a full-time rancher.
Survivors include his father Carl Scott; wife Cheryl Scott; daughter Cindy and her husband Art Orthman, their children Katelyn, Austin, Luke, and Sean; son Jason Scott and his children Hunter and Laney; son Curtis Scott and wife Grace.
